Class of the NFC?

The Cowboys are 3-0. They kicked the living snot out of the Bears on Sunday night and could be the best team in the weaker-than-usual NFC.

Considering the fact the Hawkeyes are apparently mediocre and my fanatasy team also blows, this is exciting.

When the Cowboys won three Super Bowls in the 1990s, I took winning for granted. Now that they've gone a decade without a playoff victory, well, let's just say I saw the Tony Romo-botched snap enough times during the offseason to last a lifetime.

Can he make up for his past sins?

Way to step up

We have an old cliche we employ in the sports department about giving 110 percent when your backs are against the wall. Apparently the Tigers did not get the memo.

The Tigers went into Cleveland needing to sweep a three-game series to stay alive in the wild-card race. Instead, they got swept.

Baseball season over.

BOO.

No city workers will be forced to dress the Spirit of Detroit this fall.

what an amazing trip

We spent six days, five nights in Poland. It was incredible.

So strange to come from a country, like the US, where we have never really dealt with war (OK, yes, we have participated but the carnage rarely takes place on our soil). The city my brother lives in has been bombed and restored more than once. It was also part of Prussia and Germany at different times during its history.

In all, I think the people of Poland seem resilient. Agata told us many stories about what they went through to get to where they are now.

We only visited for a few days but we had a great time and intend to return many times. In the meantime, I plan to buy a Polish phrase book and brush up on my Western Civ.

Thanks again to Brian, Agata, Martunia and Cora for putting up with us.

Here are a few photos of Wroclaw:

Hello from Polska

We made it to Poland to visit my brother, Brian, and his family on Sunday afternoon. We are having a great time so far. Besides meeting Marta, my niece, we also got to see all of Agata's family, her mom and dad, brother, sister-in-law, nephews and grandma and grandpa. It is cool here how families live close together.

Today we went downtown and went shopping. We had some traditional Polish food and "magic" coffee (with vodka). Erin bought jewelry.

Things are inexpensive here compared to the US because people don't make as much money. Example, tonight we bought a bottle of wine and six beers for 14z, that is about $8 US.

cleveland rolls

We spent the weekend in Cleveland celebrating Erin's dad's retirement. For 37 years, he taught English to high school kids. God bless him and the patience he must have.

Anyway, for his trouble, he got to watch his beloved first-place Indians smack the White Sox 7-0.

We also visited the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
