Disaster after disaster

My home state of Iowa has had more than its fair share of Mother Nature this year.

First, there were tornadoes which destroyed Parkersburg, a town near Waterloo where I grew up. Now the flooding has taken at least one of my friend's homes and damaged many of the buildings The University of Iowa.

Wayne Drehs, an Iowa native and ESPN.com reporter, writes about Aplington-Parkersburg -- a high school which was destroyed in the tornado. The school's football team has won two state titles and has four players in the NFL. Needless to say one of the first things they rebuilt -- the football field.

Keep the people of Iowa in your prayers. They will persevere but can always use a little help.

Thanks for the fun

Had a great time hanging out with old friends in Reno. Wanted to thank Lesley and Rebecca for having me and everyone else for coming out. Scruples is still the coolest place to drink in town. Kudos to Clifto for hooking us up with rodeo tickets and Eric for having the BBQ.

katie hates us

Ever since we have been in our new place our cat, Katie, has been a little sad. The past couple of days she has left a couple of piles of sadness -- not in her box -- around the house.

She is 16 and was clearly set in her Michigan ways. But I hope she is OK. Tomorrow we go to the vet to see if we can find out what the problem is. Maybe she needs kitty Prozac.

Wish us luck.

My 150th post

If my brother didn't live in Poland and my sisters in states far away I probably wouldn't have kept this boring blog going, but here I am, a couple of years later.

As promised, a photo of the cool bowl I got in Mystic:
