Opening Day

Tigers lose.

In happier news my girlfriend has returned to work after a bout with pneamonia. The doc says at least a month before she is back to full strength.

BOO!

red wings booed off ice

They lost 10-2 to the Blues -- c'mon. Goalie injuries are an issue heading into the playoffs.

Perhaps it's too early to write them off but I would not be shocked by a first-round playoff exit.

Thank goodness tomorrow is Opening Day. Tigers better beat the hated Yankees.

tiger time

Have six Tigers or former Tigers on the fantasy roster. Worried. At least I got Albert Pujols with the first pick.

Busty mick buster-ville

With very little NFL news, Mel Kiper reminds us the draft will be upon us sooner rather than later. His column on the biggest draft busts of all time -- non QB -- reminds us why teams like the Lions continue to fail.

Charles Rogers, the No. 2 pick overall out Michigan State, caught 36 passes in his career. I had him on my fantasy team his rookie year. He had two TD catches before he broke his collarbone.

And then there were the legal issues...

iphone rocks

So I have had an iPhone for about two months now and just downloaded a radio ap today. Pandora radio offers up to 40 hours of music a month free. Its stations are set up genres -- much like satellite radio. From what I have sampled so far -- awesome. Singers and songwriters and outlaw country promise to get a lot of hours.

Also downloaded a sound effect board today. Fav sounds, the cocking of the gun and shooting. What does this say about me?

time for spring

It snowed again today -- didn't stick. But seriously, isn't it time for this crap weather to give us a break?

Looking forward to getting out on my bike and enjoying some sunshine.

hoops and hacking

The flu has settled in over our house -- so we have had two days of sitting on the couch and watching hoops. If you gotta be sick, this isn't a bad time for it.

Hawkeye chicks played well yesterday but fell short on opponent Gonzaga's home floor. Something that sucks about the women's tournament, the higher seed can end up playing an away game.

The Buckeye men and women are rolling, as usual.

Here's to hoops and good health.

Show Them The Money

The New York Times this week announced it will put up a pay wall on its newspaper content.

The catch? You have to read 20 articles in a month's time before you are charged. That way the casual user can still browse for free. When a reader gets to 21, they will be charged $15 a month.

If this model works don't be surprised if other newspapers, and dot.com's providing any other kind of free news content, follow suit.

Newspapers have been sucking wind for the past 15 years. Since the dot.com boom, revenue from advertisers and classified ads slowed from a steady stream to a trickle.

I hope the pay wall works. Newspapers need to be a viable commodity and watchdog for the community.

Cowboys rule

Quit Facebook for awhile but need an outlet to write -- back to the blog.

Got a shout out today at work from Darren Woodson, former Cowboys great.

Two days out of the year around here you get to wear your favorite team's gear to work in exchange for a donation to the Jimmy V fund. I wore my personalized Cowboys jersey given to me by my guys at The News when I left.

Woodson happened by my desk and shouted, "How 'bout them Cowboys."

Love it.
