Show Them The Money

The New York Times this week announced it will put up a pay wall on its newspaper content.

The catch? You have to read 20 articles in a month's time before you are charged. That way the casual user can still browse for free. When a reader gets to 21, they will be charged $15 a month.

If this model works don't be surprised if other newspapers, and dot.com's providing any other kind of free news content, follow suit.

Newspapers have been sucking wind for the past 15 years. Since the dot.com boom, revenue from advertisers and classified ads slowed from a steady stream to a trickle.

I hope the pay wall works. Newspapers need to be a viable commodity and watchdog for the community.
