Perhaps it's for the best. They can regroup before doubleheader with the hated Red Sox aka Tool Team on Sunday.
May get to see the nightcap.
Plans for brunch and then likely going out to finally buy my bar. Very excited.

nice yard

My neighbor stopped today while I was out mowing to tell me our yard looked good. He is trying to sell his house so he wants to keep the block looking shipshape.
He was complaining about a house down the block that is painted black -- but only the front is black. The side is white. It's as if they started and then forgot to finish.
I have never understood why someone would buy something and then not take care of it.
Anyway, above is a photo of our beautiful rhododendron, which just started to bloom.
P.S. Tigers are sliding -- and they traded Scott Sizemore today. He was the second baseman of the future when they refused to re-sign Placido Polanco. Another great decision by Tigers management.

awesome weekend

Aside from the trip to the kitty ER, enjoyed a nice four-day weekend.
Sunday we headed to the casino where I got my biggest win ever -- $100 -- on slots. The game was Press your Luck and I got no whammies.
Wednesday we went to see one of my favs -- Brandi Carlisle (above, taken with my iphone) -- for the first time in concert. She opened for Ray Lamontagne so she only did seven songs. Still, her voice was more amazing in person than on CD.
The damper? Katie has yet another infection. Got her antibiotics today. Hopefully she is back to her old, cantankerous self soon.

so, I guess we're good
A volcano erupted and there were a couple of earthquakes but the world seems to be intact.
The Tigers lost, again, to the Pirates. They are usually good in interleague play. Not this year.
We are now debating the greatest quarterback of all time.
More things that won't matter when the rapture actually does happen.

the rapture

Is it all ending May 21 as at least one zealot believes?
I hope not -- I have stuff to do.
I will also be a little mad considering we spent 10 years saving to buy our house, which is no crimping our travel budget. I have done very few fun things in the past year. No way to end my time on Earth.
Of course, according to the guy predicting end of days, I am probably not headed for heaven anyway. I have five months of suffering ahead of me.
I hope the bars are open.
Lance did drugs?
Maybe, maybe not.
Lance Armstrong was accused by yet another teammate of doping. Tyler Hamilotn will tell his story on "60 Minutes" this Sunday. From the bit of video CBS released on Thursday, Hamilton seems like less than a credible source.
Whether Armstrong cheated or not, he has raised a lot of cash toward ending cancer. That, aside from his success as a cyclist, should be his legacy.

Star is born
I would be remiss not to mention the awesome talent show we attended while in Galion a week ago. Alex, who is Erin's best friend's oldest, and a group of her friends sang "Hallelujah." Love this classic Leonard Cohen song -- my fav version, before I heard Alex and her friends sing it, is by Brandi Carlisle.
Alex is really becoming quite the little singer, as I have heard her mother was back in the day. She had to leave the talent show early to go try out for "Annie." Guess she did well. She got a part.
Congrats.

impressive run
We spent last weekend in Ohio celebrating Mother's Day with Erin's folks. We went out to the this old school supper club for dinner.
At a table near us a couple was celebrating their 69th wedding anniversary. They had been married at 19. Both of them got around pretty well. He had a walker so she went up and got his salad bar plate.
Erin's folks went by and told them congrats on the way out. Erin's dad said they were at 42 years, hoping to make to 69.
The old guy said, "Go for it."
So great to see, an inspiration.

basement fun
Having some waterproofing done in the basement after having a few inches gather on the floor this spring. Jackhammers are loud.
I shall head to gym to get away from it all. Hoping to run another 5K in preparation of the race at ESPN next Saturday. The company ran a couch-to-5K program to get people inspired to work out. Smart. Working for the mouse isn't too bad.

Wings and Tigers

The Wings head back to Detroit down 2-0 to the Sharks and had better pick it up. They have been flat-out outplayed by the Sharks. Stop passing the puck and shoot the freaking thing. They have lost 10 of 12 overall to San Jose so I would guess the Sharks, not the Wings will be moving on the Western Conference finals.
And the Tigers...They did break out of a seven-game losing streak by beating the hated Yankees on Tuesday. Hopefully a sign of good things to come.
On a non-sports note, tomorrow me and my mower plan to get reacquainted after a long winter. BOO.

Should we be happy?
I am terribly torn about the death of Osama Bin Laden. Yes, he got what was coming to him. But he also had a family, who is probably sad he is gone.
I have always thought life in prison would be worse than the death penalty. We have no idea what is on the other side. Maybe he is actually enjoying being dead. We would have made it a little tougher than that for this guy.
P.S. Tigers are gonna lose to the stupid Yankees. BOO!
